Step into the extraordinary and mysterious world of Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author Susanna Clarke as she discusses her spectacular novel, Piranesi, with the one and only Neil Gaiman live and online exclusively for 5x15. Join us for what promises to be an unmissable conversation between two of our best loved, most powerfully imaginative writers.
Susanna Clarke’s readers are no strangers to strangeness. Her multi-million copy bestselling novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (Bloomsbury), recasts Georgian England as a fantastical land of raven kings, ruthless faeries and reluctant sorcerers where magic lurks around every corner. Neil Gaiman called it “unquestionably the finest English novel of the fantastic written in the last seventy years.”
In her latest novel, the acclaimed Piranesi, Clarke weaves her richly abundant magic to plunge her readers into a new and mystifying tale. Enter the world of Piranesi, the lone inhabitant of the House. Day after day, he makes a careful record of the wonders of his strange dwelling place: its labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides which thunder up staircases, the clouds which move in slow procession through the upper halls until one day when his solitary existence is interrupted. Messages begin to appear, scratched out in chalk on the pavements. There is someone new in the House. But who are they and what do they want? Lost texts must be found; secrets must be uncovered.

Praise for Piranesi:
‘Utterly compelling – bewildering, intense, moving, shocking, combining a haunting fantasy with sharp insights about a culture of domination, hierarchy and rivalry and about how the imagination can survive in such a world’ - Rowan Williams, Book of the Year, New Statesman
‘A triumphant return … Clarke has the same skill Flann O’Brien poured into The Third Policeman for making insane worlds feel as solid as our own. After all that time, she has produced a second novel that is close to perfect’ - The Times
‘Confirms her status as one of the greatest and most interesting writers of fantasy in the past hundred years or more’ - Robert Irwin, Book of the Year, TLS
